What is Critical Illness Insurance?
Critical illness insurance is an insurance policy that pays a lump sum if you are diagnosed with an illness covered by the policy. The cash benefits are only paid if the illness meets the definition as stated in the policy wordings. Some critical illness policies cover early-stage cancer or have a limited payout for early-stage cancers. These payments are subject to the sum insured or policy limits.

Summary of Prudential Critical illness plans:
PolicyPal’s Review of PRUCancer 360, PRUTriple Protect and PRUEarly Stage Crisis Cover
PRUCancer 360 ensures that you are financially stable when diagnosed with cancer of any stage. This policy comes with high flexibility to choose your own premium term and sum assured, ensuring your peace of mind.
However, PRUCancer 360 does not come with any emergency coverage such as Death, which can be found in other critical illness products. Hence, this policy is purely an affordable coverage for cancer of all stages.
Good for: Individuals solely looking for Critical Illness coverage.
PRUTriple Protect provides you coverage against Critical Illnesses of up to 300% of your sum assured. Your coverage amount will be restored to 100% 12 months after a claim is made, for up to 3 times. This policy also offers one of the highest sum assured amounts, and the flexibility to convert the plan to other types of policies without any medical underwriting.
However, one drawback is that PRUTriple Protect is that it does not include coverage against Early Stage Critical Illnesses. In order for that extra protection, you must include Early Protector Rider which may increase your premium price.
Good for: Individuals looking for high and multiple coverages against critical stage major illnesses.
PRUEarly Stage Crisis Cover
PRUEarly Stage Crisis Cover lightens your expenses with early coverage of 50% severity payout and future premium waiver upon a first successful claim. A second claim can be made immediately should there be a deterioration in your medical condition. This plan also covers diabetic complications (payout 20% of SA) and Angioplasty (payout 10% of SA).
However, PRUEarly Stage Crisis Cover has its limitations. The emergency coverage for Death and Terminal Illnesses is relatively low at only $3,000.
Good for: Individuals looking for coverage for early critical illnesses.
